An Afternoon with Esther Inglis

Activist and author of the Mirabelle Bevan series, Sara Sheridan, will be in conversation with two Esther Inglis experts to discuss the 16th century calligrapher’s renowned skills. The talk will be followed by spoken word poetry by actress and writer Gerda Stevenson, as well as a musical performance by the White Rose Ensemble who will play Renaissance-inspired pieces.

Edinburgh Documentary Festival 

Date: Friday, April 25 

Time: 18:00 

Location: The Cameo, 38 Home Street, EH3 9LZ 

The Close Up Edinburgh Docufest is coming to The Cameo cinema tonight. The festival is a space for creative documentary and non-fiction storytelling, with the programme including a feature-length film from the Netherlands, as well as short documentaries from across Europe. Those shown are the winners of the Close Up Edinburgh Docufest competition, which had categories such as best student documentary and best experimental documentary.

Coffee evening and raffle 

Date: Wednesday, April 30

Location: 45 Frogston Road West, EH10 7DR 

Marie Curie and Girlguiding Scotland have organised a cozy coffee evening and raffle to raise money for the two causes. The event,taking place at the Edinburgh Hospice, will be hosted by the Fairmilehead Rangers Girlguiding group, who also made the window art for the building. The event is a chance to relax and enjoy delicious home baked goodies, and to take part in an exciting raffle to raise money for the organisations.

Fundraiser for the The Palestine Museum Scotland 

Date: Thursday, May 1

Location: Augustine United Church, EH1 1EL 

The Palestine Museum Scotland, which will be opening next month on Dundas Street, is hosting a fundraiser to aid the organisation in highlighting the voices of Palestinian creatives among the diaspora. The fundraiser will include Palestinian food and performances, such as music from Zeina Barhoum and a poetry reading from Saja Kilani.

Critical Mass cycle in Polwarth 

Date: Saturday, April 26

Location: Meet on Middle Meadow Walk 

Critical Mass, the campaign group for safer cycling in Edinburgh, are holding their monthly cycle protest in Polwarth tomorrow. Beginning from their usual spot-on Middle Meadow Walk, they will be cycling to raise awareness of streets in “dire need” of resurfacing and bike infrastructure.
