Celebrating 26 Years of Chowderfest in Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Tens of thousands of chowder enthusiasts from across the nation celebrated Chowderfest for the 26th year on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The streets of downtown Saratoga Springs were filled with people testing out over 80 types of chowder from various restaurants, cafes, and businesses from all around the region.

From classic seafood to buffalo chicken and raspberry chocolate chowder, there was undoubtedly something for everyone’s palate at this year’s Chowderfest. Jerry Creedon, who lives in Saratoga Springs, said his favorite chowder came from Saratoga Central Catholic School.

“The chowder there is excellent, it’s Saratoga Catholic,” Creedon said. “It’s seafood chowder, but it had nice chunky clams or something in it.”

With only about $2 per cup and 89 different flavors, Ceedon said eating your way through Chowderfest would be very tasty but not practical.

Some chowder makers have been hard at work on Thursday and Friday perfecting their delicious creations. After years of Chowderfesting, Augusta Rosa, the owner of Dive, said it’s become routine.

“We have been doing this since day one,” Rosa said. “We love doing it. It is one of our favorite days of the year here.”

This year’s Chowderfest brought in nearly 30,000 chowder fans, who spent a total of $3 million to find out just how good Saratoga’s chowder was.
