Burst water main causes chaos in city’s south side

Scottish Water is on the scene and has said it is working to fix the broken pipe, which has ruptured and spilled thousands of gallons into the streets.

Residents in the G41, G42, G43 and G44 postcodes were said to be facing an “interruption” to their water supply, with some reporting taps running dry while others had barely running water.

The areas affected include Shawlands and Strathbungo, according to a statement form Scottish Water.

Pictures from the scene, captured by Herald Photographer Colin Mearns, show water spread across a wide are, with shops in danger of being flooded.

Social media users posted images of a burst main on Pollokshaws Road leaving the street flooded.

A post on their website stated: “We have identified the cause of the interruption to water supply affecting customers in the G5, G41, G42, G43 and G44 areas of Glasgow and are currently arranging the repair to return supplies to normal.

“This has been located on Pollockshaws Road, and may cause some traffic disruption whilst we carry out repairs.”
