Two men in their twenties have died following a single car crash in Co Carlow in the early hours of Friday morning.
The incident took place on the N80 in Leagh, Rathow in Carlow at around 1.15 am. Two occupants of the car, the driver and a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in the car, a man and a woman both aged in their 20s, were taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The N80 at Leagh is closed and will remain closed for a number areas while garda forensic colliison investigators examine the scene. Local diversions are in place.
There were 15 road deaths in January 2024. There have been 14 fatalities on the roads in January 2025, including the two young men today.
This crash has occurred exactly one year to the day since Daryl Culbert (21), Katie Graham (19) and Michael Kelly (25) lost their lives in a tragic car crash on the same stretch of road, on January 31, 2024.
Gardaà are now appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. It is understood the vehicle involved in this collision was travelling from Mount Leinster to Carlow town via Fenagh.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling along this route, or who were on the N80 at Leagh between midnight and 1.15am are asked to make this footage available to GardaÃ.
