Glasgow workers at huge firm walk out over dispute

Staff at outsourcer Capita in Glasgow and Manchester will begin strike action today in a dispute over their ’employer’s refusal to negotiate a pay award for 2024′, Unite the Union have said.

There will be ongoing industrial action until 5.59am on Wednesday, February 5.

According to the union, staff from the company were due a 2024 pay award last April.

However, the employer ‘postponed the annual pay talks with their union Unite with the assurance that the workers would be given a pay rise in October’.

A spokesperson for Unite said: “This has not materialised despite this part of the business reporting profits and a healthy balance sheet.

“In December 2024, workers voted overwhelmingly to take strike action across the two Capita sites.

“This industrial action will start today following the decision of their employer to deny them a pay increase.

“The dispute involves around 1,000 employees.”

“Capita should be under no illusions about the strength of feeling of Unite members in its workplaces over pay. Our members at Capita will receive the union’s unwavering support.”

The Capita staff in Manchester and Glasgow work on the Royal London account which will all face disruption and delays if industrial action takes place.

National officer, Dominic Hook said: “Capita has had months to sit down with Unite to negotiate with the union to ensure its workforce receives a fair pay deal for 2024.

“If the bosses at Capita think hiding from their staff will make this issue go away, they should think again.

“Because of the lack of action by management the Capita contract with Royal London and will now face delays and disruption.”

Strike action will start at 7am on Wednesday, January 29 and pickets will be in place.
