Man (40s) dies after car enters Grand Canal in Kildare

Gardaí are investigating.

A man in his 40s has died after a car entered the Grand Canal in Kildare.

Gardaí said the fatal road traffic incident occurred in Grangeclare West, Kilmeague, Co Kildare, yesterday evening at 8pm.

It is believed that at that time a car entered the Grand Canal.

A man, aged in his 40s, was recovered from the water and treated by crew from the National Ambulance Service.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The body of the man has been removed from the scene and a post mortem will take place.

The scene is currently held for examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and the Garda Water Unit.

Access along the canal at this location is currently restricted.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Those with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam, from the area at the time are asked to provide it to investigating Gardaí.
