DENVER (KDVR) — Wintry conditions in Denver weather is causing snow to pack on roads across the metro area Monday evening, prompting a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day.
Some agencies across the state are warning drivers of the dangerous driving conditions, urging drivers to stay home.
The Arvada Police Department said plows are responding, but “roads are getting bad,” with some on the west side of the city packed with snow already.
The Littleton Police Department said roads are slick and visibility is low in the area, particularly on Bowles Avenue.
“If you don’t have to go out, please stay home. If you have to go out, drive slowly and stay safe,” the department wrote in a post on X.
Broomfield, Centennial and Castle Rock are on accident alert due to the weather conditions. This means that the public is encouraged to only call police due to a crash if a driver involved is under the influence, someone is injured, a driver does not have insurance or if vehicles are blocking the roadway and cannot be removed without help.
Here is how some roads across the metro area are looking Monday evening:
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, some roads or lanes of some roads have been closed due to crashes and road conditions.
Many crashes have been cleared and the closures lifted — here are the closures as of 9 p.m.:
- US 85 southbound between 104th Avenue and Interstate 76
- Northbound Interstate 25 south of Pueblo between Graneros Road and CO 165.
- Left lane of Interstate 270 between Quebec Street and Interstate 70
The National Weather Service said snow is expected to clear out east of the foothills Monday evening. Overnight, snow is expected to continue in the mountains.
