OPP take over workplace death investigation after 2 Sudbury police officers suspended | CBC News

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are taking over a workplace death investigation in Sudbury following the suspension of two officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Service.
Greater Sudbury police requested that OPP look into the May 23 death of 19-year-old Roch (Rocco) Renaud, who had been doing maintenance work at a residence in the city’s Lively area.
In a news release, Greater Sudbury police said there’s now an investigation into the actions of two off-duty police officers on the day Renaud died.
Both officers are suspended with pay, in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act.
Greater Sudbury police did not provide more details regarding the two officers’ actions that day and have not released their names because the allegations against both officers have not yet been substantiated.
“The Greater Sudbury Police Service takes all allegations of misconduct and/or criminality by our officers seriously and remains committed to a thorough, transparent investigative process that upholds accountability and maintains the public trust we are sworn to protect,” the news release said.
In a separate release, OPP said the death investigation is ongoing under the police service’s criminal investigation branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
Ontario’s Ministry of Labour is also part of the investigation, a spokesperson told CBC in an email.
