After a gap of over four years, Pakistan Railways (PR) announced on Saturday the restoration of the Khushhal Khan Khattak Express at the end of this month.
Railway officials said the passenger train, which was running a profitable route on Main Line-II, was suspended in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They added that the train connects several major cities from Karachi to Peshawar.
Earlier, Pakistan Railways had restored the Shah Hussain Express between Karachi Cantt and Lahore in February to facilitate passengers.
The passenger train runs from Karachi to Lahore, making stops at Hyderabad, Rohri, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Khanewal, and Faisalabad.
Besides restoring trains on profitable routes, Pakistan Railways was also set to launch a high-speed express train between Lahore and Karachi, similar to the Green Line Express that operates between Islamabad and Karachi via Lahore, it emerged in December last year.
“The primary goal of this new train service is to provide passengers with advanced amenities and an enhanced travel experience,” an official in the Ministry of Railways said.
The official emphasised that Pakistan Railways is focused on improving passenger services and using new technology to locally produce coaches, which will eliminate the need for imports.
Additionally, he said the department is working to enhance food quality and cleanliness to ensure a comfortable and clean environment for passengers.
