Red Sox players meet Trump at White House

Some members of the Boston Red Sox shook President Donald Trump’s hand at the White House Thursday.

Margo Martin, a communications advisor and special assistant to Trump, shared video of the president greeting 10 players in the Oval Office.

The Red Sox were off Thursday and traveled to Washington, where they will play the Nationals in a three-game series beginning Friday morning.

A team spokesperson told The Boston Globe that some players visited the White House as part of the Red Sox’ family road trip.

Sports teams traditionally visit the White House after winning a championship.

Trump was in office when Boston last won the World Series in 2018. The following year, manager Alex Cora and several star players declined to attend the team’s visit.

Following last month’s trade of Rafael Devers, no players from the 2018 team remain on the Red Sox, and Cora did not appear in Martin’s video.
