Texas winter storm: Businesses, services and courts among those closing Tuesday due to freeze

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — As most of southeast Texas braces for a historic winter storm, many Houston businesses and services will be closed on Tuesday.

A combination of freezing rain, snow, and sleet will likely fall on Monday, causing hazardous road conditions.

Most all school districts have cancelled classes for at least Tuesday, and many, including Houston ISD, will be closed Wednesday as well.

Here is a list of the ongoing closures.

Airport system: Flight operations at Hobby and Bush Intercontinental airports will be temporarily suspended starting at 12 a.m. Tuesday.

Harris County Toll Road Authority: Closing EZ Tag stores and call center on Tuesday due to the winter storm.

METRO: Suspending bus service starting at 9 p.m. Monday. Service plans for Tuesday could change, but for now, METRORail Red Line will operate from Fannin South to UH-Downtown. METRORail Green and Purple lines are scheduled to operate depending on weather conditions. The Green Line will not operate over the Harrisburg Overpass Bridge, therefore, service to Magnolia Park Transit Center will be suspended. METROLift will face weather-related challenges getting riders to necessary medical appointments. Riders are encouraged to plan ahead as only life-sustaining trips will be provided. Bus and Park & Ride will not operate. METRO HOV/HOT Lanes will be closed. Customer service will be operational both Monday and Tuesday.

Harris County Civil Courts at Law: Canceling in-person proceedings on Tuesday. All in-person proceedings set for Tuesday will be rescheduled. This includes in-person proceedings set on the dockets for each of the four Harris County Civil Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Civil Courts at Law Associate Judge Jermaine Thomas. Some online hearings scheduled for Tuesday will proceed as planned. You can email the court to which your case is assigned if you have questions. If your case was rescheduled, you can find your new court date by contacting your attorney or the court to which your case is assigned, or monitoring the Harris County Clerk’s website.

Houston Methodist: The hospital is canceling its elective surgeries on Tuesday.

Houston Zoo: Closed Tuesday.

MD Anderson Cancer Center: Closed for in-person appointments.

UT Physicians: Closed for in-person appointments on Tuesday and will have a delayed opening on Wednesday afternoon.
